THE TEXAS RANGERS HAVE NAMED A FIELD AFTER CHARLEY PRIDE
Charley Pride’s love of baseball is once again solidified in history.
The Texas Rangers have officially named a field in their spring training complex after
the late country music legend. It is now and will forever be Charley Pride field located in
Surprise, Arizona. Charley owned a part ownership stake in the Texas Rangers but his love of the
game, like many, started as a player back in the 1950’s.
He was a pitcher in the Negro Leagues as well as the Minor Leagues for the
Yankees, Mets and the Angels organizations. Unfortunately, his professional
baseball career was cut short due to injury but that gave way to a legendary
career in country music.
Charley was a huge Rangers fan, would work out with the team and even put on
an annual clubhouse concert for the players and staff.
We lost Charley back in December at the age of 86.
